How MS works
MS works on the basis of direct, peer-to-peer support between people. This means that the financial support doesn't go into a central fund, but rather it is transferred directly — from the donor to the person who needs the solidary aid. In this way, support is able to arrive more quickly, more transparently and more responsibly — then when it is needed most. Our goal isn't only to collect aid, but to build a system based on trust, clear rules, and interpersonal responsibility.
One MS safety net,
two areas of support
MS functions as one system of direct financial aid, but it covers two areas – depending on who needs support, and what situation a person is in. We started with the coordination of support for education workers. Through that experience it became clear to us that the same patterns of oppression, injustice, and deprivation of support because of institutional failure also afflict the wider community. This is why today, MS covers two areas of support:
MS For Education
Support for people from the education sector who have lost a part of or their entire salary or institutional support due to their professional or social engagement.
Examples of support include:
- Coverage for partial or complete salary loss
- Financial support for teaching staff
- Support for people from the education sector who suffer the consequences of their engagement
MS Against Repression
Support for people who face fines, pressures, violence, and other consequences of their social engagement or commitment to the public interest.
Examples of support include:
- Coverage for fines, the cost of court proceedings, or the cost of emergency hospital visits
- Emergency support after repression or pressures
- coverage of expenses incurred through various forms of repression as consequence of their social engagement
The pillars of MS
MS functions as a direct connection between people, based on trust and verification.
The system has three key roles:
Donor (You)
Who: A person who wants to offer financial aid.
What: The donor registers first, then chooses the area of support, and then transfers money to the account of the person who needs aid. The donor does not wire the money to MS, but directly to the people who need it – the recipients.
Afflicted by oppression — recipients of solidary aid
Who: A person afflicted by the consequences of their activism or professional integrity (fines, job loss, pressures).
What: The person needing solidary aid enters the solidarity support network via a delegate. They state their needs, and receive a money transaction from a donor.
Delegate
Who: The bridging trust and control mechanism of MS.
What: Delegates are background-checked partners who verify cases and enter potential recipients of solidary aid into the system. Delegates confirm that help came to the correct hands. They ensure that the system remains transparent and that there are no abuses.
